Buying a Scanner

Buying a scanner in today's scenario is lot much easier if you are considering the affordability but much more difficult if you are considering the options. With time scanners have become much more affordable. A couple of years before scanning was treated as luxury mainly due to the high costs of a scanner. The cost of a scanner has come down considerably with the only increase in the features and quality. With lot many scanners available in the market today it is very difficult to opt for one which suits your needs. Here we are sharing with you few important tips on buying a great scanner.

What to look for in a scanner? In any scanner the optical resolution is very important to give you that fine digital image. The optical resolution is measured in dpi or dots per inch. The more the optical resolution the better the results are. The bare minimum for any scanner is the optical resolution of 1200 dpi.

The next aspect to be thought over is the color depth which is also known as bit depth. The color depth is a measure of the quantity of information which can be captured on each individual pixel when scanning. You should look for higher color depth options as they decide on the scanners capabilities on determining subtle difference in colors. A good scanner should have at least 24 bit depth.

Also important is the type of sensor the scanner uses. The oldest and the most common scanner sensor is the CCD or charged coupled devices which are also present in the cameras and offer high quality images. The new technology succeeding the CCD is CIS which is Contact Image Sensor which works on with very low power consumption and enables the scanner to work on the USB port.

These factors along with the details on the manufacturer with comparison on pricing can help you in buying a scanner.
